Answer:
Saber shin — Anterior bowing with cortical thickening of the tibia due to chronic periostitis in congenital syphilis (children) or disordered bone remodeling in Paget disease of bone (adults).
Why is it called so?
Named for the resemblance of the anteriorly bowed, thickened tibia to the curved blade of a saber or cavalry sword.
Pathophysiology
In congenital syphilis, repeated gummatous periostitis causes subperiosteal bone deposition and anterior bowing during childhood growth; in Paget disease of bone, excessive osteoclast-mediated resorption followed by hyperactive osteoblastic bone formation leads to cortical thickening, trabecular coarsening, and mechanical bowing of the tibia.
